Switch Health Announces Partnership with Uber

Switch Health's partnership with Uber is the latest innovation towards providing faster, more convenient, and more accessible healthcare services to our patients across Canada, in the comfort of their own homes.

Today, Switch Health is pleased to announce a new program with Uber Canada to help more Canadians conduct COVID-19 testing safely at home, and receive swift results. Canadian travellers who receive Switch Health’s COVID-19 home collection kit can now use “COVID-19 Kit Return” via Uber Connect to safely send their collection kit back to a Switch Health partner laboratory.

Uber Connect launched in Canada last May to help users to make it easier than ever to send packages, items, and goods to others. Uber Connect’s same-day contactless delivery option made it a perfect match for Switch Health to offer more accessible healthcare services to patients. 

This is part of the federal government’s testing program for international travellers entering Canada. As part of this program, Switch Health is providing at-home collection kits to travellers who enter Canada at either land border crossings or designated airports. The tests are self-collected lab-based polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests, and Switch Health supervises the self-administration of the test virtually. 

Through this new partnership, Canadians can use Uber Connect to send their collection kit back to a Switch Health partner laboratory. For users, Uber’s Connect feature is a same-day contactless delivery solution that will aid in faster test processing and results reporting. For drivers, this is an opt-in opportunity that provides incremental earnings, along with free COVID-19 testing from Switch Health.

How it works:

  • Once a user has completed their test using Switch Health’s at-home collection kit, they can log into the Uber App and select “COVID-19 Kit Return” via Uber Connect
  • A driver will arrive at the address and perform a contactless pickup, where the securely sealed package is placed directly in their trunk by the sender. Senders are not permitted to load the package into the backseat or hand it to a driver directly.
  • The driver will then drop the COVID-19 collection kit to the nearest Switch Health partner laboratory the same day.

This program will go live in the coming weeks where users will be able to see the Switch Health option directly in the app. We’ll be piloting this program in Toronto, and use the learnings from the market to support other cities across Canada.
